Jo Sweeting
Jo Sweeting was born in 1965. She studied Fine Art Sculpture at Leeds School of Art, and learned lettering at Skelton Workshops.
She is a sculptor, letter carver and printmaker. Inspired by nature, language, and landscape, she works in stone, clay, bronze, and paper. Words are at the start of every piece, reflecting place, belonging, and time’s passage - embracing the subtle changes and traces we leave behind.
Jo’s practice merges traditional carving with contemporary expression. Collaborations with artists, writers, and communities extend her work into landscapes, galleries, and media such as radio and film. From jewellery to monumental stone pieces, Jo’s art balances craft and concept.
Jo has exhibited at The Scottish Gallery, Pallant House Gallery, The Biscuit Factory, Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft, BADA, Gilbert White House, Long and Ryle Gallery.
Her book - Long Ground, A Carver’s Notes - will be published by Nomad Press in early 2026. The memoir is illustrated with her own original woodcuts.
