Angela Harding
Angela Harding is a renowned British painter, printmaker, and illustrator celebrated for her evocative depictions of the British countryside and its native flora and fauna. Her artworks are instantly recognisable for their unique blend of strong, graphic linocut lines and delicate, layered silkscreen colours, which capture the mood and atmosphere of her subjects. If you walk in to any good bookshop at the moment you will see a selection of Angela's illustrated books.
She predominantly uses a combination of hand-cut vinyl or lino blocks for the main design and layered, hand-cut paper stencils for the background colours applied via silkscreen printing. This meticulous process, often involving four to six layers of colour, results in images with both graphic strength and a watercolour-like softness.
This year she had her second residency on Fair Isle, studying and painting the wildlife. While she was there she was interviewed by Martha Kearney for The Natural Life on BBC Radio 4. She has also been a guest on BBC 4’s Desert Island Discs (available on BBC Sounds).
We have exhibited Angela's work for over 20 years and for our our 40th Anniversary Exhibition, alongside her prints, Angela made a number of original paintings, inspired by her stay on Fair Isle and the wonderful birdlife to be found there.
